SUMMER TERM 2010
This term has been very busy for Year 3. The children have all really enjoyed our history topic on the Ancient Egyptians and they have completed lots of lovely pieces
of work to go in the amazing topic books they have made. These include learning
about mummification and making their own canopic jars, using model magic to make
amulets, researching Tutankhamun
using the internet and books
to produce a poster
and finding out why the River Nile was so important to the Egyptians. Our topic
has really come to life through our drama work which has focused on Howard Carter
discovering Tutankhamun’s tomb. The children took on the role of archaeologists
and had to keep a journal of their experiences in the
Valley of the Kings.
Another enjoyable part of our topic was Egyptian day which once again focussed on
using drama to bring events from Ancient Egypt to life. The children all looked
great in their Ancient Egyptian outfits and learnt a lot from the day.
We have completed two DT projects this term. The first involved the children designing
and making healthy choice sandwiches. It was really fun watching the children choose
their own fillings to make their sandwiches and they really enjoyed eating the final
product!
The second involved using pneumatics to make moving monsters. The children did a
great job designing and making their monsters and had great fun testing them out.
In literacy we have been studying the features of Greek myths. This resulted in
the children all
writing their own Ancient Greek Quest Myth after lots of careful
planning including using PowerPoint to map their hero’s quest.
As
well as all of the above, other activities have included spending an afternoon
learning various cheerleading moves with the squad from Royal Holloway, our weekly
swimming lessons where it has been really pleasing to see the progress made by all
the children and learning about Judaism in our RE lessons.
We have had a lovely year with the children and wish them all a restful and enjoyable
summer holiday.
