Year 4 Autumn Term
In Year 4 we have been busy working on our Roman Topic books during our History
lessons. We have learnt all about how the Romans fought, what entertained
them, what they ate ad their general way of life. Part of our topic work invloved
a trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace. During our visit, we took part in a workshop,
in which we learnt how archaeologists used evidence
to find out about aspects of
Roman life. We were shown atefacts from the Palace and took part in practical activities
including dressing as a Roman Emperor, weaving, making a mosaic, working in a roman
kitchen and Arch building. We also saw some amazing mosaics, it was fabulous educational
day out, it really brought out topic work to life!
During our Literacy lessons we have been developing our use of adjectives and descriptive
writing. We have looked at picture books and used our imaginations to extend stories.
We have also looked at the storybook 'Where the Wild Things Are' and written playscripts
linked to this.
In Science we have been looking at 'Keeping Warm'. We have used thermometers to
investigate different temperatures around the classroom and predicted why some places
are hotter than others. We have also set up experiments to investigate how various
materials keep warm liquids insulated.
During our Art lessons we have been working with clay and designing and making Roman
coins. We have had a go at writing Roman Numerals and using the Roman alphabet.
We have also made our owm mosaics, inspired by the mosaics we saw at Fishbourne
Roman Palace. In DT, we have been making pop-up books. We designed our pop-up books
based around a Christmas story and learnt three pop-up techniques that we have integrated
within our stories.
