Summer
Term 2010
Children in Year 5 are almost at the end of an extremely hectic, but enjoyable summer
term in which they have experienced a wide range of activities
One of the highlights was our Aztec Day, which really brought the topic alive for
the children. Graciela and Ian, who run Mexicolore, visited us and brought with
them lots of wonderful Aztec artefacts. The children enjoye dressing up, dancing
and playing musical instruments. In the afternoon they made god's eyes and two-headed
serpents. The children were very proud of the Aztec masks they designed and their
beautifully presented topic books.

We have been studying Literacy through drama this term, using the story of Solomon
Green as a starting point. The children have produced some extremely thoughtful
written work showing an understanding of the issues facing immigrants
In Design and Technology we had great fun making and designing our own musical instruments
and tasting, making and, of course eating our own bread. We are all proficient cooks
now!
We are proud to say Year 5 won the tag rugby
tournament and the team spent a fantastic
day out at Twickenham rugby grounds watching the final and playing a small match
on the pitch at half time. What an achievement!!
A number of the children also demonstrated their new found line dancing skills at
Carnival Capers and our own summer fair. They also choreographed their own line
dances which they showed to the rest of the school in a morning assembly..
