School Life - School Trips |
| |
 |
There is the opportunity for the children to go on two residential trips during
their time at St Ann's Heath.
Our year 5s spend the week on an organic farm in Devon at the end of October. The
trip supports part of our Geography, History and Art curriculum. Every morning
and afternoon the children help with supervised farm jobs, such as grooming the
Shetland pony, flying the barn owl, mucking out the pigs or walking the rabbits.
The rest of the time is spent as follows:
- A study of the local village and school
- A walk on Dartmoor with experienced guides
- A visit to Buckland Abbey, the home of Sir Francis Drake
- A visit to Plymouth Aquarium
- A visit to Stonehenge

A highlight of Year 6 is their trip to Ironbridge. This usually takes place in June
and primarily involves historical work bringing the Victorian era to life.
The Wilderhope Manor Youth Hostel, where we stay, was originally built and owned
by the Cadbury family and is now owned by the National Trust. During the trip we
visit many places of interest in the area:
- A visit to Ironbridge and the museum of Iron
- A tour of Jackfield Tile Museum where the children will have th opportunity to design
and decorate their own tile using Victorian methods
- A guided tour of Coalport China Works
- A visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town
- A visit to Eninuity
- An atmospheric trip on a steam train
- A tour of Cadbury World
